Bishop of Cleveland

Dear Bishop Richard Lennon:
I imagine you are quite busy in your new diocese, and I apologize for taking a few minutes of your time. But one issue you are probably pondering is what to make of the prophetic messages which Mrs. Maureen Sweeney-Kyle claims to receive.
I would like to testify that I have known Mrs. Kyle for about 15 years, have heard her speak, and have read her messages carefully. It is my opinion that these messages are authentic; furthermore, that the spiritual counsel they offer is not only sound, but remarkably profound.
I realize that some people, members of the clergy included, are very hostile to her work; but this has been the case with Lourdes, Fatima, and just about every other Marian apparition. When it becomes appropriate for the diocese to take a stance in regard to Mrs. Kyle, I suggest that first, a commission of impartial theologians be appointed to study her messages and evaluate them from a doctrinal point of view. If they do not contain any errors, then the diocese could very well wait and see the fruits of Mrs. Kyle's work. "By their fruits you will know them" is the criterion Jesus gave for judging those who claim to prophesy in His name. I expect that you will find her a real blessing for your diocese.
As for myself: I taught theology at the University of Notre Dame for 41 years and, during my retirement, have been studying the Marian apparitions and locutions that are being reported all over the world. Several years ago, I published a pamphlet called Marian Apparitions Today at Queenship Press; a new book, I Am Sending You Prophets, is about to appear this summer from the same publisher.
Respectfully yours in Christ,
Father Edward D. O'Connor, C.S.C.
