“Think of the weed as self-love which entangles itself around the heart that really wants no part of it and is trying to live in Holy Love. The areas of the heart given over to self-love are not fully discovered until the soul tries with sincerity to pull these ‘roots' out. Sometimes the weeds of self-love in the heart are difficult to remove, and it is only with intense effort the heart can be freed of all that is holding him back from growth in holiness.”

“The gardener does not give up in ridding his garden of weeds. Neither should the soul grow discouraged in freeing his heart of the weeds of self-love.”
