St. Thomas Aquinas

St. Thomas Aquinas says: “Praise be to Jesus.”

“I have come to help you understand discouragement. The human heart has to willfully open to this spirit of its own accord. In doing so, the soul rejects the cross that God wills for him in the present moment. That present moment will never return. Once it passes, it is gone forever. The same cross may be offered to others, but surrounded always by a unique set of circumstances. These circumstances are as varied as the person's state of mind–his temptations, his health, his environment, and so on.”

“Discouragement is kindred to self-pity which carries the heart into the past and/or the future. The soul is tempted to think, ‘look how long I have waited,' or ‘how much more can I do to accomplish such and such?' Accept both cross and grace alike in each present moment with a heart of Holy Love. Then, and only then, will you have peace.”
